The generous deck beam is carried well aft providing for an expansive cockpit with twin steering stations and large master stateroom below. The Catalina 470 embodies all that is essential to safe passage-making and all that is desired in performance, function, comfort and luxury.

Silhouette II is fully loaded and ready to take you island hopping around the Caribbean or to far corners of the world. She features many upgrades including Leisure Furl in-boom roller furling with a full battened mainsail from Quantum. (2010) Raymarine package including 120 Hybrid chart plotter, 4KW digital radar, AIS-B and Sirius weather, solar, wind generator, (2012) Village Marine Tech 30GPH Watermaker and more!

Equipment: Silhouette II has been has been in yacht management and very nicely maintained throughout its lifetime. Satin varnished joinery is in very good condition throughout the vessel. Sihlouette II has the standard layout with large master stateroom aft, Pullman guest cabin forward and has the settee in the salon that can be turned into another double bunk.

The galley is conveniently located at the base of the companionway on the port side. It is a well thought out u-shaped galley with 2 sinks amidships, plenty of counter space and storage. Refrigerator is accessed from both the counter top and a front opening door. A large deep dry food and pot locker is forward of the stove. Over the sinks facing forward is a large storage cabinet with a light under.

Starboard of the galley you will fin the well thought out, forward-facing Nav station with a chart table and comfortable seating. Good access to the electronic displays and the main and distribution panels.

The large salon is bright with good ventilation due to all the opening ports and overhead hatches. Great headroom at over 7’! There is a large table to port with comfortable seating for 6-8. Opposite is a long settee. Storage cabinets and shelves outboard on both sides.

Forward is the guest stateroom with a large Pullman berth, hanging lockers, shelves and private head with a separate enclosed shower. Beyond the shower is a generous storage locker that some have turned into a laundry room with a washer and dryer.

The generous deck beam is carried well aft providing for a large master stateroom. Queen sized island berth, hanging lockers, drawers, vanity desk 32” flat screen TV and private entrance to aft head with a separate enclosed shower. 2 large hatches overhead on either side open to the cockpit.

Hurricane Damage/repairs Silhouette II suffered some damage during the hurricanes of 2017. The owners have gone above and beyond on her repairs. As a preventative measure they went ahead and had the keel dropped, inspected and re-set with oversize backing plates. she is as good or better than new condition. Certainly better that an 18 year old vessel that had not had its keel dropped and re-set! Summary of the storm damage and professional repairs upon request.

Calculations

Hull Speed
11.0 kn
Classic: 8.68 kn

Hull Speed

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Formula

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

A more accurate formula devised by Dave Gerr in The Propeller Handbook replaces the Speed/Length ratio constant of 1.34 with a calculation based on the Displacement/Length ratio.

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio.311
Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

10.98 knots
Classic formula: 8.68 knots
Sail Area/Displacement
18.0
16-20: good performance

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

Formula

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64)2/3

  • SA: Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D: Displacement in pounds.
17.96
<16: under powered
16-20: good performance
>20: high performance
Ballast/Displacement
32.6
<40: less stiff, less powerful

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Formula

Ballast / Displacement * 100

32.6
<40: less stiff, less powerful
>40: stiffer, more powerful
Displacement/Length
162.8
100-200: light

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

Formula

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet
162.75
<100: ultralight
100-200: light
200-300: moderate
300-400: heavy
>400: very heavy
Comfort Ratio
28.2
20-30: coastal cruiser

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Formula

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam1.33)

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
28.17
<20: lightweight racing boat
20-30: coastal cruiser
30-40: moderate bluewater cruising boat
40-50: heavy bluewater boat
>50: extremely heavy bluewater boat
Capsize Screening
1.9
<2.0: better suited for ocean passages

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

Formula

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
1.87
<2: better suited for ocean passages
>2: better suited for coastal cruising
