The owner bought this boat in 2012
General condition and any additional information
This was our starter boat prior to retirement. Weve cruised it up and down the east coast between the lower Chesapeake Bay and the Abacos. We said wed move up to a larger boat after we learned the ropes, but this one suited our purpose so well we never made the move. I have always maintained it to be ready for extended coastal cruising, and its ready now. Im pricing it to sell without having a broker fee to pay. If you are interested, give me a call and leave a message. I will call you back, provide every detail you could want, and make arrangements for you to inspect the boat.
Standard features
21 HP Universal diesel, 7000 hours. Runs fine Mainsail, genoa on a furler, a larger hank-on jib, and a spinnaker Dodger and Bimini Lowrance GPS 3 anchors charts hot water heater alcohol stove 30 amp shore service 15 watt solar panel for battery maintenance
Extra gear included
life jackets, various ropes, Magma grill, etc etc etc. The only items I will be removing from the boat are 2 kayaks (that could be negotiable), my tools, a cooler, and personal effects.
The dock is paid for through June 2022.
Improvements to the hull, deck, rigging, engine, or interior
New bottom paint March 2022… 2 coats of Cukote 2 12 volt batteries Sept 2020 New raw water pump 2020 New circulating water pump 2019 New head about 2017
This boat has been maintained in totally seaworthy condition. I cruise with it every year. I will be happy to discuss particulars on all equipment (age, condition, etc) to any potential buyer over the phone. The engine oil and fuel filters have been maintained on a regular basis. The boat is ready to leave the dock right now.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
A more accurate formula devised by Dave Gerr in The Propeller Handbook replaces the Speed/Length ratio constant of 1.34 with a calculation based on the Displacement/Length ratio.
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio.311
Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64)2/3
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam1.33)
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)
Originally the 29.9 was delivered with a Universal Atomic 4 gas engine.
Later models were powered by a 15 hp Yanmar.
By 1983 a 16 hp Universal diesel was standard.
Available with fixed keel or keel-centerboard.
