Needs have changed and we are buying a larger boat so our 1983 ODay 25 centerboard model is for sale, priced to go quickly. Wind Dancer draws as little as 23 with the board up so you can almost sail it up the sidewalk. It can go nearly anywhere on the river or bay. Bought this boat one year ago to learn to sail and it has served us well. It is in very good shape for its vintage and sails well with one or both sails up. Mainsail is new last year as is all standing rigging and most running rigging. Only line I would replace in a year or two is the CDI furler halyard but that available online. 155% genoa is original but sails fine in the bay winds. I installed lazy jacks and brought main halyard back for single handed sailing without leaving the cockpit. Also added a tiller tamer to tend the helm while you tack or cruise. Outboard is Nissan 9.8 4 stroke maybe 10 years old. Serviced it this winter and everything was beautiful. New water pump, hoses, gaskets and seals, spark plugs. It starts with 2 pulls but has electric start. Large house battery is one year old and starting battery has great voltage. A solar charger is included. Boat comes with portable chem toilet and has a decent size fresh water tank and electric pump for the sink. There is also a pump for draining the icebox. Lots of extras including some dock lines and fenders, cleaning equipment, a pristine vintage alcohol stove and others. There is one known issue with this boat and one only. The circuit for the radios is intermittent and needs to be traced and repaired. If time permits I will have this repaired. This boat is complete and ready to sail the bay.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
A more accurate formula devised by Dave Gerr in The Propeller Handbook replaces the Speed/Length ratio constant of 1.34 with a calculation based on the Displacement/Length ratio.
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio.311
Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64)2/3
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam1.33)
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)
One of company’s most successful models and in production for nearly a decade.
A majority were delivered with a keel/cb, but a fixed keel version was also available (Draft:4.50’/1.37m), as was a taller rig.
I: 32.00’ / 9.75m
J: 10.60’ / 3.23m
P: 26.50’ / 8.08m
E: 9.00’ / 2.74m
Yanmar inboard diesel available as an option.
