General condition and any additional information
THIS IS A FRESH WATER ONLY BOAT. IT HAS NEVER BEEN OUT OF THE GREAT LAKES.
We are spending almost all of our time traveling in a camper these days. The boat is becoming a drag on our lifestyle. As a result I’m willing to reduce the price even further. My dealer originally said that it would easily go for $120,000.00. Either through lack of effort on his part or a bad market it didn’t sell at that price. We then reduced it to $114,900.00 which generated substantial interest but still no sale. I am now out from under the broker contract and willing to reduce the price even further since I will no longer be paying a broker fee. I am now reluctantly offering my boat for $94500.00. Check the links in the original email below for further information. This boat has been sailed exclusively on the Great Lakes.
It’s that time! I’ve got too many irons in the fire and something has got to go. After 30 years sailing it’s time to move on. My C400 #140 is for sale (for sail?) 😂. It is a 1998 during the change over from mk I to mk II. It has some features of the mk I and some from the mk II. Stand up aft separate shower (mk II), keel stepped mast (mk I). Many extras such as 245 watt solar panel, Air Breeze wind generator, Kato hanging davits with highly reinforced pushpit, 25mm emergency flare gun kit, AUTOPROP self adjusting 3 blade propellor, Catalina original 3 blade fixed propellor (kept as spare), new VHF radio with DSC, 2000 watt inverter, air adjustable bed in master berth, full dodger and bimini with inter connecting panel, AIS xmit/rec unit with wifi connectivity to smart phone or laptop, Pioneer stereo with 12 disc CD changer and 2 12 disc cassettes, oversize CQR anchor, New refrigerator (condenser and compressor) in 2016 and many more modifications shown here:

Improvements to the hull, deck, rigging, engine, or interior
Roller furling main and genoa.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
A more accurate formula devised by Dave Gerr in The Propeller Handbook replaces the Speed/Length ratio constant of 1.34 with a calculation based on the Displacement/Length ratio.
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio.311
Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64)2/3
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam1.33)
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)
