Holby Marine

19842013

Overview

(From Holby Marine Website) Holby Marine Company was founded and incorporated in the state of Rhode Island in 1984, by W. Barrett Holby, Jr. The original plant was located in a 3400 sq, ft. building in the historic Herreshoff Complex, in Bristol. The first yacht was a joint project with German Frers to build a 40-foot IOR racing sloop. In order to achieve the yacht’s full potential under IOR, innovation for both materials, and construction technique, were necessary. Holby Marine was ahead of the times utilizing material such as “Carbon Fiber”. The success of Blazer of Paget lead to the building of other racer-cruisers from the design board of Bill Tripp; the Tripp 41 and Tripp 37. In 1987, due to increased demand, the company moved into a new 10,000 ft. facility which is its current location. Holby specialized in building semi-custom boats by such noted designers as German Frers and Bill Tripp, Craig Walters, Chuck Payne, Takai Yacht Design (Japan), Greg Elliot, Roger Martin and Mark Ellis. In 2013 the assets of Holby Marine were purchased by Pilot Boats LLC of Belfast, Maine. (formerly Roth Built Boats)
