The Melges IC37 was designed to return the joy of racing by providing a one-design boat and class that brought out the true hallmarks of what one-design racing is meant to be. It is an innovative amateur one-design class designed to race with a crew of family and friends. The class and boat are built around the concept of one set of three sails for all conditions, a rig designed to trim and go, and only essential instruments. All of this combined with remarkable performance in all conditions has made the IC37 a true winner.
Coupled with the strong backing of the New York Yacht Club this ensured a large and active one-design class from the start and one that will not wither on the vine. Like the Swan 42 one-design of NYYC, the Melges IC37 class will be around for years to come.
In addition to one-design racing the design is also favorable to ORC competition, which has been rapidly expanding and replacing PHRF as the rating rule of choice for all significant regattas. The design is the boat of choice for top international competitions such as the Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup and the Canada Cup. Sailing World Magazine also named the IC37 the 2019 Corinthian Boat of the Year.
Rima37, as she is named, is part of a dynasty of performance yachts that the seller has owned, including J/70, Italia 11.98, RP 55, Farr 60, and Swans. His yachts are professionally managed, and it shows as well for the IC37.
Rima37’s hull, US 32, was laid down in Fall of 2019 and completed in 2020. In 2021 the boat was hardly used due to the pandemic, and since then, Rima37 has been stored indoors in Portsmouth. When Rima37 was not racing, the boat was also kept indoors. Due to having extremely light use the boat is in better than new condition, with all systems in excellent shape and well upgraded above standard specifications. Rima37 placed 2nd in the 2021 IC37 National Championship in Newport.
Included are a complete set of class racing sails plus spares. As well there is a set of North ORC specification sails. Sail Limitation Marks were not used in 2022/2023.
There is also a custom storage cradle, a complete B&G electronics package (above standard spec), an epoxy bottom, and all-new running rigging. A large box trailer is also available separately for those wishing to have a travel program.
2023 appears to be a hallmark year for the class, with several one-design events out of Newport plus a three-part winter series based in Fort Lauderdale. There is plenty to experience from the best of one-design racing with the IC37.
The Melges IC37 is CE Rated A, which enables the boat to be used right away in European regattas.
