Jac. M. Iversen

18841974

Jac. M. Iversen was a boat builder and designer active in Norway from 1907 to 1926. Trained as a carpenter in the United States, he began his career in Son, Norway, in the family yard. After the stock market crash at the end of the 20s, the family was forced to close down the shipyard and Iversen moved to Gothenburg, Sweden, where he worked for a few years. Later he moved to Stockholm. There he first worked with Carl Iverssen Plym. He had to leave when the economic situation worsened for the yard and opened his own company in 1931. Iversen worked with great success in Norway, Sweden and other countries. He was a founding member of the sailing club ‘Soon Seilforening’ ( www.soon-seilforening.no ) and was its first president from inception on February 18, 1919. During his time in Stockholm Iversen designed some Swedish naval vessels, including M minesweepers. He has also designed a number of luxury yachts for prominent clients such as CG Pettersson a legendary boat manufacturer. Iversen designed more than 700 boats. The Swedish Maritime Museum owns approximately 3,600 of his drawings.
