Joseph McGlasson

American Boat builder, designer, and prominent figure in early development of fiberglass production sailboats. The McGlasson built and designed 24’ ISLANDER CATALINA literally became the mold for a number of Columbia Yachts earliest models. (McGlasson was a trained Naval Architect and a narrative we have seen encountered elsewhere, that some of these earlier Columbia models were simply copies of earlier types is probably not correct.) He left Columbia to form Wayfarer Yachts, which became Islander Yachts. As best as can be determined, his relationships with both firms were not happy. Later McGlasson moved to Oregon, and started a company called Cape Foulweather Boat Co..
