Seller's Description

The owner bought this boat in 2017

General condition and any additional information

Here is a rare opportunity to purchase a turnkey round the world luxury sailboat fully upgraded and optioned in immaculate condition and ready to go anywhere. Sarah was purchased by a wealthy and very particular Norwegian owner to take his family globally in comfort, safety and luxury She has recently completed an atlantic crossing and a season in the Caribbean but due to family circumstances is now offered for sale in Norfolk VA ,tax has been paid and Sarah is now a US citizen. The owner has invested over a million dollars to get her to this stage (receipts available) and she could literally be sailed anywhere in the world with a weeks notice. This is the deep fin/bulb keel 9.5ft ocean version, very stable and comfortable at sea with minimal heeling, a real pleasure when passage making, there are four cabins sleeping 8. The decks are solid teak and in excellent condition. The boat is wired for 220v 50hz power currently, its the best voltage for world cruising with the most availability, it is convertible to US 220v 60hz. The power and charging system onboard is designed for self sufficiency, the boat has been in the US for 3 months now without been plugged into shorepower, with no AC the solar covers all the daily power use. There are 4 Dometic AC units onboard totaling 44000 BTU each servicing different areas, The AC is designed to run from the lithium batteries, a 10000 watt Fischer Panda Inverter generator (Kubota Diesel 1900 hrs) automatically starts when the batteries reach 40% charge, it takes about 3 hours to recharge to 100%. I usually do laundry, make water or run the dishwasher when the generator comes on. There is also a hugely efficient hydrogenerator that charges when sailing, in total there are 5 ways to charge the lithium batteries, solar panels, hydrogenerator, diesel generator, twin alternators on the main engine and shore power. There are two shore power inlets, one exclusively for the AC units. The house battery bank has 4 Mastervolt MLK Ultra 12/5000 lithium batteries giving 1440 ah, each battery is paired with a Mastervolt Mass Combi Ultra charger/inverter. Ducted heating is supplied via a diesel heater, Hella 12v fans are mounted throughout. An Eco Sistems watermaker is onboard making around 50 gallons per hour. The stern garage can hold a smaller tender, jet ski or as storage, Fen Classic carbon davits are mounted on the stern and can easily lift a 40hp, 16ft inflatable via remote control. No tender is included. Satellite communication is provided by the Sailor Cobham system allowing for worldwide voice calling and data services for constant weather and email updates. Sarah was last lifted in June 2020 for new anodes and two coats of high quality Petite ULTIMA SR-40 bottom paint, a video walk-around of her underside is available. A Viking 8 person liferaft certified until 11/22 is mounted aft. There are two B and G autopilots one electric and one hydraulic. 3x Zeus 3 multifunction displays are fitted displaying all the navigation and radar information. B and G instrumentation is throughout. A Czone Touch 5 display controls all electrical and electronic items onboard. There is a good selection of spare parts including pumps and service items for the main engine and generator. The main engine is an upgraded Volvo D3 150 hp with low hours and recently serviced turning a 4 blade folding propeller with a top speed of close to 10 knots. With lower rpm cruising at 6 knots the consumption was 1 liter per nautical mile giving a range of apx 700 NM. There are 9 jerry jugs onboard extending the range to 900 NM. The mast, inmast furling and rigging are all Selden and Furlex.the 3 headsails are all on upgraded furlers. From front to back the sails are,1- UK Sails code Zero, good from 0-14 knots, 2- UK Sails Genoa, 3-Self tacking cutter/storm sail, (running backstays or checkstays have been fitted to support the lower mast section when using the storm sail in heavy conditions.) 4- Inmast battend Elvstom FCL mainsail. All sails and the 4 upgraded Harken winches are controlled by push button at the helm. On the 1600 mile trip from St Thomas I had crew for watches only and sailed the boat entirely by myself, this boat could be easily sailed solo or by a couple, she is cared for and maintained by a professional captain. There is a Miele washer/dryer, dishwasher and high end coffee maker to keep the crew happy. 2 refrigerators and a freezer inside and a very handy drinks refrigerator in the cockpit. There is a bespoke custom leather interior. 10 inflatable fenders and ample mooring lines Spare anchor and a parachute sea anchor. Bow and stern thrusters make manouvering in tight spots easy. Overall Sarah presents in excellent condition throughout and would suit a buyer wanting to sail away this winter without investing a year preparing the boat. She is lying in Norfolk VA and available for viewing by appointment. Asking price is $695000 or reasonable offers, delivery is available. Considering the current situation she represents a wise investment in you and your families lifestyle. Phone 2397035193 for more information

Calculations

Hull Speed
11.5 kn
Classic: 9.45 kn

Hull Speed

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Formula

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

A more accurate formula devised by Dave Gerr in The Propeller Handbook replaces the Speed/Length ratio constant of 1.34 with a calculation based on the Displacement/Length ratio.

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio.311
Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

11.53 knots
Classic formula: 9.45 knots
Sail Area/Displacement
19.8
16-20: good performance

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

Formula

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64)2/3

  • SA: Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D: Displacement in pounds.
19.84
<16: under powered
16-20: good performance
>20: high performance
Ballast/Displacement
32.9
<40: less stiff, less powerful

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Formula

Ballast / Displacement * 100

32.89
<40: less stiff, less powerful
>40: stiffer, more powerful
Displacement/Length
182.7
100-200: light

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

Formula

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet
182.74
<100: ultralight
100-200: light
200-300: moderate
300-400: heavy
>400: very heavy
Comfort Ratio
34.1
30-40: moderate bluewater cruising boat

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Formula

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam1.33)

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
34.08
<20: lightweight racing boat
20-30: coastal cruiser
30-40: moderate bluewater cruising boat
40-50: heavy bluewater boat
>50: extremely heavy bluewater boat
Capsize Screening
1.9
<2.0: better suited for ocean passages

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

Formula

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
1.85
<2: better suited for ocean passages
>2: better suited for coastal cruising

Notes

Deep keel: 2.85m/9.33’
Shallow keel: 2.25m/7.42’
