O’day made this boat in two versions, one standard and one deluxe. This boat is the deluxe version. It has the teak and holly flooring, the traveler is mounted on the cabin top instead of in the cockpit, it has self-tailing winches and roller furling was standard. The interior has standing head room through out. It has two large settees in the main cabin, a large quarter berth and a vee berth forward. It has four opening port windows along with two large tinted side windows with curtains. It has a ice box and a sink with hot and cold pressure faucet. It comes with a one burner gas cook top and AC refrigerator. There is a an attractive fold-up table in the main cabin. It has a newer head, holding tank, and a macerator pump. It has a small sink forward. It has a marine style hot water heater and it also has exhaust heating when the engine is on.
Equipment: It has a 150 percent genoa on a furler and a newer North brand main sail that is still crackles when touched. It has a travel on to of the main cabin along with a boom vang. The main winches are self tailing. All lines feed into the cockpit. It has a blue bimini with SS rigging. It has a main sail cover, a steering wheel cover, a companionway cover, and winch covers. All the canvas is royal blue. It has a Edson steering wheel with a binnacle mounted compass and engine controls along with a Garman GPS chartplotter. There is a complete set of deluxe cockpit cushions. It has a two cylinder Universal diesel that is in good working order. It has two anchors and an anchor locker forward. The main anchor has roughly thirty feet of chain on the rode. It has a full set of dock fenders and all the required safety gear aboard. It has the double life line and bow and stern rails too. The exterior wood has been recently varnished. This boat sails well. It is easy to use and as far as I know is not in need of any work.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
A more accurate formula devised by Dave Gerr in The Propeller Handbook replaces the Speed/Length ratio constant of 1.34 with a calculation based on the Displacement/Length ratio.
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio.311
Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64)2/3
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam1.33)
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)
A keel/cb verion of the the O’DAY 28 was also available. Draft BU: 3.25’, BD: 6.83’
Later, the the keel/cb version was dropped in favor of a shoal draft fixed keel: Draft:3.67’
Deeper keel: Draft:4.67’/ 1.42m
Alternate tall rig:
I: 38.00’ / 11.58m
J: 12.08’ / 3.68m
P: 32.50’ / 9.91m
E: 10.00’ / 3.05m
