Price reduced again for quick sale. This is a absolute steal at this price!!!! Race it or just day sail it really fast!!!
This boat won the Class 4 2019 San Diego Cortez Racing Association High Point Trophy and SD PHRF before COVID hit. Most recently third overall against the entire fleet for the 2022 SD CRA High Point, second overall 2022 SD PHRF Fleet Offshore, tied for third overall 2022 SD PHRF Fleet Inshore. See picture of trophies won in 2022.
Several recent upgrades/features include new mainsail, new light-med #1 genoa, newer #2 genoa, new symmetrical kite, very good condition asymmetrical kite, new Harken foil, newer self tailing primary winches, mainsail and running backstay fine tuners, spin pole up/down on mast. Tack Tic wind, magnetic compass, Garmin 44DV, Signet knotmeter. Large inventory of practice/delivery sails. Engine has been cleaned up, runs and starts very well, very recent stuffing box and thru hulls, sprayed-on racing bottom has been recently touched up and is in very good shape. Bottom has at least one more season and probably two more to go. I have spent about $15k on this boat on sails, bottom, and various upgrades since I bought it.
This boat is ready to be competitive immediately. Rating is 138, 138, 138 PHRF. This boat can be sailed to its rating. Only reason I am selling is that I bought a J92 which we will be racing in the new season. Boat is docked at Marina Cortez in Harbor Island, and the slip is transferable. This boat can sleep 4 people comfortably for overnight racing or weekend trips. The slip is right next to my new boat, which is great for exchanging info on race days. If you were ever thinking about getting into sailboat racing, or just want to win races immediately, this is a fantastic opportunity. Start the season on a proven winner!
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
A more accurate formula devised by Dave Gerr in The Propeller Handbook replaces the Speed/Length ratio constant of 1.34 with a calculation based on the Displacement/Length ratio.
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio.311
Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64)2/3
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam1.33)
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)
Based on an IOR 1/2 ton prototype.
A more racing oriented version (with a shorter coach roof and longer cockpit, deeper keel etc.) was also available. How many of these were built in unknown.
Available with the deeper keel: 6.0’/1.83m
Tall rig:
I: 39.5’/12.04m
J: 12.5’/3.81m
P: 35.0’/10.67m
E: 9.5’/2.90m
